Welcome to The Foodie’s Way! I am Karina, the writer, recipe developer and photographer behind this blog. Since beginning in 2014, I have loved every minute of my foodie journey through The Foodie’s Way. I have created recipes for Macmillan’s Summer Lights campaign and have had my recipes published in Heat Magazine, Good Things Magazine and MyFitnessPal. I have also loved cooking for many wonderful family get-togethers, celebrations and suppers with friends testing out my new creations. It’s an exciting journey! Thank you so much for visiting The Foodie’s Way and sharing it with me.
My life revolves around the joy of foodie experiences: researching new recipes, cooking and baking for family and friends, eating out, the quest for ‘the one’ wine (more about that later), reading foodie magazines and other food blogs, discovering farmers’ markets, artisan food shops and other locally produced food here in my beautiful home of Dorset. The artist in me also sees a picture wherever I go – I love capturing the beauty of good food in a photograph!
A nose for good food and good wine runs in the family. My French grandmother grew up on a farm in Normandy and moved here when she was just 19 years old with my British grandad, Maurice. They were both teachers and spent long, summer holidays with family in Montpellier, southern France. Growing up, I remember her famous tart tatin topped with either pear or apple or peach, abundant with beautiful creme patisserie. This creme patisserie was so good, I remember my cousins and I asking her to make huge batches of it to eat straight out of the bowl.
Along with a family of cooks, my cousins, brother and I spent our childhood shlepping around the Dorset countryside and coast; from lazy days on our boat in Poole Harbour and climbing Rhododendrons on Brownsea Island, to exploring Badbury Rings and the Bluebell Woods in Pamphill, Wimborne, to picnics and rambling around the New Forest. I loved it all.
Now an adult, I love nothing better than striding out in the Purbeck countryside in the fresh air, breathing in the lush greeness and earthiness around me. The land seems to whisper to me; it’s when I come alive. I nurture secret dreams of owning and living on the land, of growing my own produce in golden fields.
All this has developed in me a profound connection with nature and the goodness that comes from the earth. That’s why I am passionate about local, seasonal ingredients for making food that is good for the soul. It just feels right! All the recipes on The Foodie’s Way are designed to make you feel good making and eating them – nurturing, wholesome and delicious!
So why The Foodie’s Way? Because this is a way of life, living life with food at the heart of it and everything that this means. It’s not just about the food on the table but friends new and old, the bringing together of people, the time taken, of life shared and memories experienced.
Please enjoy exploring the site and I hope you find the recipes delicious, the photographs enticing and the journey memorable.
