Power Berry Smoothie Bowl

Ah, breakfast. Easily my favourite meal of the day. Those of you who know me will know that I used to be cereal addict. Crunchy, nutty muesli with ice cold milk and lots of berries for breakfast, lunch, the odd lazy supper, and snacks-a-plenty in-between. Any time was a perfectly acceptable cereal time for me. But, since my ‘clean eating’ quest began in January, I have begun to discover a world of other, equally scrumptious options. Out of them all, this power berry smoothie bowl is king.

I’m not a cooked breakfast fan, and the thought of eggs for breakfast (whilst I know this is a very popular option for you morning protein lovers out there) is just not that appealing to me. So instead, I have experimented with all sorts of smoothies, overnight oats with chia seeds, and homemade granola with Greek yoghurt. This power berry smoothie bowl is a sort of smush-together of all these delicious things!

Being new to the world of smoothies (yes I know, where have I been?!) I was fairly cautious to begin with, and carefully followed smoothie recipes from Pintrest with fairly pleasing results. But then, one morning in a hurry, I decided to throw everything together haphazardly in my own mix, and it turned out…the best!

Oh breakfast, oh breakfast, how I love you…

Those of you who have read previous posts will know my obsession with breakfast. It is easily my favourite meal of the day, and I realise  that’s probably not a common vote. In my mind, there is nothing more satisfying than crunchy, oaty, cereal-y deliciousness, generously accompanied with either milk or thick, creamy Greek yoghurt. Then, to top things off, a handful of blueberries, strawberries or a chopped banana and plenty of honey (or golden syrup if it’s the weekend. I like to push the boat out once in a while.)

I am also not ashamed to admit to the huge quantities of breakfast I munch on. A HUGE bowl of cereal, granola or porridge. Nothing less will do. I have a friend who likes to mix a bowl with a variety of 2, 3 even 4 different cereals, but I am purist. Give me muesli, give me crunchy granola, abundant with chunky nuts and seeds and other tasty goodness. But mix them? Oh no.

Most mornings, I am a cereal or porridge kinda gal. Now I am not adverse to a little eggs and bacon once in a while. But mostly, when I wake up, I crave the FRESHNESS that only oats and fruit will bring. But once or twice a week, I will dive into the granola jar. Imagine my dismay when this week, on one such morning, the granola jar was empty! Only the powdered dust remained. This is when I made the approvingly wholesome decision to make my own. …

Pancakes With Spiced Poached Pears

Pancakes Spiced Poached Pear | thefoodiesway.co.uk

I am a breakfast addict. I have no shame in eating a bowl of cereal twice, even thrice, in a day. A favourite weekend pastime of mine is going out for breakfast. It feels such a treat, such a leisurely way to start the day. It’s also fun scouting out new breakfast spots in our local area (along the beautiful Dorset coastline).

Recently, I have been scoffing hot fluffy pancakes abundant with fruit and drizzled in sweet, sticky maple syrup. Ahhh. Move over, cereal, pancakes are the ultimate breakfast treat!…
